LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINALS

RAMS 2 REAL HOLTSPUR 1

The Rams lined up against local rivals Holtspur, with a ticket to the semi finals against one of the Burnham Junior teams at stake.

The home side started brightly, dominating possession but couldn't quite make the break through. Connor Campbell was unlucky not to open the scoring after a Rams corner was cleared by the Holtspur defence, his rasping shot just over the bar, and within minutes a carbon copy of his previous effort, a corner was cleared with Connor well placed just outside the box again narrowly missing the target with the shot. Holtspur had a couple of good chances with some quick counter attack football, but Ben and Connor were solid in defence and limited the away sides efforts on goal. The first half finnished 0-0.

The second half and both teams fought hard to find an opener and it was a quickly taken corner by James Heady that caught the Holtspur defence off gaurd, and the low shot from James was deflected in off of a defender, 1-0.

Buoyed by the goal the Rams looked to press home the advantage and soon doubled their lead with Tom Scott firing home, 2-0. Holtspur tried to get back into the game and got a goal back but it was too late for it to make a difference. A couple of good saves from Jordan, a battling performance from Jamie who worked hard throughout, James battled well and forced the opener, Tom again worked tirelessy tracking back and defending from the front, Ben and Connor were fantastic in defence. Arran too had a good game with a couple of good turns and runs down the wing.

Everyone played well and MOTM could not be singled down to just one player with the credit going to all 7 lads Jordan, Ben, Connor, James, Jamie, Arran and Tom.

Rams 1 Burnham Blues 1

The Rams eventually lined up for the Home tie against Burnham Blues after the fixture before xmas was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The Rams had previously put 9 goals past the blues on their own ground and were determined to do the double over their local rivals!

Corey Edwards hit the opener afetr some great passing, started off by Ben Hillier breaking up a rare Burnham offensive, through to Aaran then Tom before Corey fired home with his left foot from close range, 1-0. Connor was solid in defence and Callum didnt have a save to make in the Rams goal in the first half.

The blues keeper made several top class saves as the Rams pushed to double their lead, half time score 1-0 to the Rams.

Second half continued in much the same vein as the first with the Rams in control of the match. Burnham worked hard to get back into the game and got lucky when a long range shot came through a number of players before squeezing between Connors legs in the Rams goal, 1-1 with about 5 mins to go.

The Rams created a couple of good chances before a late challenge by Sean gave away a free kick just outside the box. The ball was moved to a slightly more favourable position for the strike which skimmed off a SYCOB defenders head and was tipped over fantastically by Connor in the Rams goal, making up for his earlier error. We all thought the ball was in the back of the net and the Blues had stolen all 3 points but a world class save considering Connors vision would have been impeded by the amount of players in front of him!

The match finnished 1-1, with the home side slightly disappointed not to take all 3 points, but a much improved Burnham Blues side will hopefully take some points off of our other rivals in the league table!

New Windsor Seahawks 3 Bulls 1

The Bulls matched the Seahawks for most of this game and were a little unlucky not to get a draw.

In an entertaining first half, the Bulls recovered from going a goal behind to equalise through a cracking shot from Jamie. With Olly and Josh solid in defence the Bulls seemed to be getting the upper hand by the interval.

The Bulls started brightly in the second half and came close to scoring several times. Unfortunately, the Seahawks showed a bit more power and accuracy in front of goal and managed to add to the score sheet twice more.

Candidates for motm included Jamie, who was always in the action, Olly, for his usual high quality performance, Max, for battling away and showing good skills in midfield, and Jordan for some brave saves. Josh picked up the motm award for great tackling, energy and for starting off many of the Bulls attacks.
