FC Holyport 0 Bulls 4

An excellent away win for the Bulls against one of their main championship rivals.

The Bulls started like a rocket, with Ollie's cool finish and Callum's well-struck lob putting the Bulls two up in the first five minutes. After that the Bulls were always in control and threatened to add to their lead throughout the first half.

The Bulls finally grabbed a third shortly before half-time. Another Bulls goal had been on the cards, but the manner of the goal surprised everyone...

Striking the ball as crisply as a Tiger Woods drive, Lewis launched a shot from inside his own half which flew over the heads of both teams and dipped in between the bar and the stunned Holyport keeper. The parents in the crowd might have recalled another youngster scoring a similar goal against Wimbledon 14 years ago :

Hmm, I wonder whatever happened to him.

Holyport threw everything at the Bulls in the second half. They have some quick, skilful players and it is easy to see how they have scored five or more goals four times already this season. However hard they tried, the home side could not get past the Bulls, who became the first team to keep a clean sheet at Jubilee Park with a fantastic defensive performance.

Lewis, Josh and Dan in defence played with great concentration and determination throughout, never giving the Holyport strikers any space.

The Bulls midfield were awesome: sprinting back whenever we lost the ball to join in the defence. Holyport play on an unusually big pitch, but the super-fit Bulls never stopped running from the first minute to the last. The home side were restricted to a couple of long range efforts (which Jack coped with confidently). A superb effort Bulls!

The Bulls always seemed the more likely team to score in the second half but we had to wait for the last kick of the game for Max to crown his MOTM performance with a fizzing cross-shot from the corner of the box.

4-0 to the Bulls! A massive step towards the championship and an excellent team performance.

Bulls 13 Holtspur Bucks 0

The referee paid the biggest compliment to this Bulls victory. As the teams lined-up for yet another re-start midway through the second half he paused the game to re-count the number of Bulls players on the pitch. Yes, there were really only seven Bulls on the pitch at any time, but wow how they worked hard for each other!

It was a powerful, energetic performance from the Bulls to completely overwhelm plucky Holtspur. Here's a run down of the lads who achieved their biggest victory of the season...

CALLUM: Another awesome display from the Bulls skipper. Led by example. Passing and shooting improves every week.

DAN: Has become an important player for the Bulls. Energetic and never put a foot wrong.

JACK: Had his best game in attack so far this season. Worked hard, made life difficult for the Holtspur defenders and took his goal well.

JOSH: Full of energy. Made attacking runs without forgetting his defensive responsibilities. Well done Josh.

JUREME: Got on the scoresheet yet again, despite having no luck in front of goal (Don't worry Jureme, we will be celebrating another one of your hat-tricks soon!). Created lots of chances for his team-mates by tackling defenders and making passes to players in space.

LEWIS: Great positioning and determined tackling. Getter closer and closer to getting on the scoresheet too.

LUKE: Excellent finishing to add another two goals to his goal tally. Getting better every week.

MAX: Two more goals, including a candidate for goal of the season. Always in the thick of the action.

OLLY: Six goals!! Fantastic all-round performance: tackling, passing and deadly in front of goal.

Well done Bulls. Your passing and finishing is improving all the time. Let's keep up the improvement and make sure that you finish the season with a medal.

MOTM : Jack

Bulls 1 New Windsor Eagles 3 (Plate QF)

The Bulls matched their Division C opponents all the way before crashing out of the Plate in another hard fought match at Farnham Park.

In an even first half, the visitors benefited from two controversial refereeing decisions, which ultimately decided the tie.

The Eagles took the lead midway through the half when the referee judged that the ball had crossed the line, despite protests from the Bulls defenders. The Bulls fought their way back into the game and excellent teamwork between Ollie and Jureme led to a Bulls equaliser. 1-1!

With time running out in the first half, an extremely harsh handball decision gave the Eagles an opportunity to restore their lead from the penalty spot. 2-1 to the Eagles at half time.

The penalty decision only made the Bulls more determined and throughout the second half they put constant pressure on the Eagles goal. With MOTM Callum battling away in midfield, the Bulls forced numerous corners and goalmouth scrambles, but couldn't quite find a way past a big lad in the Eagles goal.

There was no dispute about the final Eagles goal. Breaking out from their own half, the impressive Eagles striker sprinted clear of the Bulls defence and gave Dan no chance with a well placed shot.

The Bulls can be proud of their performance. A neutral spectator would never have guessed that the teams play in different divisions and the Bulls were on top of their Div C opponents for much of the game.

Now it's back to the league. Seven more games to determine whether the Bulls can be champions!

League Cup Quarter Finals - Sunday 7th March

Rams 2 Burnham Whites 4

Once again the Rams lined up against our nemesis Burnham Junior Whites. In previous seasons the Rams have knocked them out of the League Cup and pipped them to the league title.

Another cold morning with a pitch that was slowly defrosting and just about playable again a bare 7 players lined up, missing two of their most creative players in Tom and Arran. A solid start from both teams as they measured each other up once again, Jamie and Sean letting nothing past them as they broke up the Burnham play on numerous occasions. Corey battled hard in midfield as did James and Olly as the home side looked to take the advantage. However it was the away side that got their noses in front after a corner was whipped in when straight through the Rams defender on the near post and nestled in the bottom corner, a bit of a freak of a goal really! The boys didnt let their heads drop, Corey had a couple of chances, Olly struck one from long range and Ben had a half chance in the box that he was unfortunate not to score. Callum made 2 or 3 fine saves to keep the Cup Holders in the game. first half finnished 0-1.

The second half and the Rams looked to get level and they didnt have to wait long before a neat passage of play found Olly out in space on the right wing and he cooly slotted home into the bottom corner. Lifted by the equaliser the Rams pressed hard to get ahead, they won a corner. The ball was floated in perfectly and Sean met the ball with a powerful header that rocketed into the top corner, 2-1! Burnham though were not beaten yet though with another 10 mins left on the clock. A long ball looked to be harmlessly bouncing back to the keeper past a Rams defender who tried to chest it down but unfortunately missed the ball and edged it off of his arm...Penalty!
Connor made no mistake with the penalty firing home the equaliser, 2-2 game on.

Burnham were now lifted by the equaliser looked to get ahead and after the home side failed to clear their lines the ball fell to a Burnham player who fired the ball in from close range, 2-3. With the Rams chasing the game the final 5 minutes was manic, challenges flying in left, right and centre a traditional cup clash ensued. The holders were desperate to get back on level terms throwing everyone forward as the clocked ticked away. But the holders dreams were dashed as Burnham broke away on the counter attack and sealed the win. Another thrilling encounter between these two teams, the match ended 2-4.

Man of the match went to Callum Gray for a fine goalkeeping performance making several top class saves.
